No9, stainless, premium wood. the way to go !

Few things : Raised with No9 carbon blade I was very reluctant to buy my first stainless steel blade. I did ! from there I will buy only stainless steel blade from Opinel. It is an huge improvement. Next, buy the premium wood definitely worth the extra bucks. Last but Not the Least. I am so glad Opinel finally released the No9 size in stainless and premium wood ! its the most versatile and useful size. No8 is too small ! No9 is the way to go !! Opinel is a resume of the french quality and touch. I would ad you can go wrong with an Opinel ! its worth every bucks you spend on it !

    Suprisingly good

Hello to all who read this. (Concerning the NO. 9) This knife is a very comfortable knife to hold & use. Its on the big side, but not too big. For my large & lanky hands this knife is perfect. If your hands are smaller than average, i'd suggest you start with the no. 8 model. If your hands are large, this no. 9 model is perfect. Very good quality & very slicey. I easily put a lanyard hole in the base of mine. My one critique is that i would like to see a thicker blade stock. This is very good & all, i'd just like a thicker blade personally. But thats me. The blade stock is more than thick enough to be sturdy & strong. I'm just into thicker blades as an individual. All in all, 10 out 10 all around. Well done opinel. May your family continue to keep these classics in production for ages to come. I'll definitely buy from you again.

    Beautiful

I bought a #8 before and it was almost perfect but very small for my hands. Now I bought a #9 and #10 and they came in plastic zipplock bags which was strange because we talk here about Opinel with a great history and the whole marketing story. Anyway my #9 came with the metal ring almost stuck and I was hardly be able to rotate it to open the knife. I left it in the house for 24hrs and I hopped the wood will lose some humidity and the knife will be easier to open after that. Unfortunately the ring got totally stuck after a while. I researched a bit looking for a solution and I found out that U40 might work and indeed after few minutes after I used it the ring started to rotate and after 24hrs was moving almost like it was supposed to do. In the end you will love this knife and its perfect imperfections if you are a bit patient. I would buy more opinel knifes.

    Old Timer

I was raised on a sheep ranch with Basque herders! Back in the 1950's everyone on our ranch carried an Opinel knife including me. We used our knives for “everything” and our knives were used hard. No stainless then so we oiled our knives with olive oil. I just purchased a couple No. 09 Inox with olive wood and oak handles. Outstanding knives! I appreciate the quality and workmen ship. Few thing have remained the same, or better, over the years but Opinel has and their knives have served me well for 70 years! Many thanks Opinel!
