Never done any wood carving except making bigger sticks smaller. The big challenger here is to figure out what to do with the end of the knife which is considerably wider than the rest. Then, you need some inspiration. Not sure I was able to do anything to special here but I'm happy with how it turned out. It's meant to be a trilobite fossil that was dug out of the ground and made into a knife handle. I might try again when I come up with an idea. The book was nice with some general ideas of things to do with a knife. So, things I did were to put masking tape on the blade while I was carving and I finished with an acrylic enamel spray. Good luck!
The three different varieties of wood handles are even more exceptional than expected. Opinel continues to produce beautiful and functional knives. I am proud to include the Ebauche No. 8 varieties (Olive Inox, Maple Inox and Cherry Carbon) to my already wonderful collection of Opinel knives dating back to the 1950s. I am a fervent believer in your No. 8. There is no better folding knife than the Opinel. My father gave me his (from the 1950s) and I have never looked back! Merci Beaucoup !
i learned whittling and practiced on a template model i made using shop tools to learn how to whittle until i had the skill to whittle the handle on this one! can't attach picture due to losing the knife, but it was awesome.
Quality product and the Opinel experience is wonderful. I ordered three of the custom handle knives to give as gifts at Christmas but only received instructions for one. I contacted cusomer service and they took made it right fast. Great knives and great company!
Another example of consistent quality and superb craftsmanship. Thanks.
