The My First Opinel with Sheath is the perfect knife to teach kids how to whittle, cut, prune or carve wood. The sheath is made from recycled material and will stand the test of time. The knife has a stainless steel blade making it easy to maintain and take care of. The folding knife also features our patented Virobloc locking mechanism which keeps the blade safely closed for transport or securely open while in use. We suggest adult supervision when teaching kids to use the knife.

    A Beautiful First Knife...and a great gift

Everything about this knife is beautiful, from the wood handle to the blade. I've have no trouble with the locking mechanism and I've bought many of these knives as gifts for kids as their first knife. Totally recommended.

My 5 yo saved his own money for this!

It isn’t dull. The locking mechanism was tough at first, but now it works easily. I’ve used it to cut pancakes, string, and carve soap. I hope to use it to carve wooden spears. I love it! —5 yo boy

Glad I got it for me

I ordered the model with the whistle in the handle for my 3rd graders and the rotating locking mechanism works ok on those. I got this one with the natural wood handle for myself, and neither my husband nor I could rotate the lock. I don't know if the one we got is a dud, or if it's because there's too much friction against the wood. If you're getting this for a kid, pick one of the colorful handles!
