To complement our best-selling kids knife set, we teamed up with designer, illustrator, and children’s book author Amanda Jane Jones to create a limited edition Le Petit Chef Kids Apron!
With three kids at home who love to cook (using Le Petit Chef!), and a very bold, fun design style, Amanda was an ideal collaborator for a limited edition apron to go with our Le Petit Chef kids knife set.
We sat down with Amanda to chat more about design, the collaboration, and kids in the kitchen!
Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
My name is Amanda Jane Jones. I'm a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and children’s book author.
What do you like most about your work as a graphic designer?
I love that no two days are the same! I design cookbooks, branding, products, packaging. I also create art and love to do collaborations and write books! My work is so versatile. I never feel like I’m stuck in a corner. I also work from home, and since I’m very much a homebody, this is perfect for me.
You just created a fun kids apron with Opinel, can you tell us about your design process for this? What were you inspired, or influenced by?
Yes! My kids have used the opinel knives to cut our fruit and salads for years, so I was so thrilled and honored to be invited to collaborate. It’s amazing to me how much of the fruit and vegetables get eaten in the process of cutting (wink, wink!), so I knew that was going to be the focus of the design. I made the illustrations using paper cuts and then modified them digitally.
What is your favorite Opinel?
Oh, for sure the Le Petit Chef kids set. I love seeing my kids feel so empowered in the kitchen, but also knowing they are safe. Kids love to help and be involved. This makes our dinner prep so much more enjoyable for the whole family.
If you had to pick one word to describe Opinel, what would it be?
Timeless!
