Carbon steel

Our carbon steel is extremely hard, thereby guaranteeing excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance and easy regrinding. Carbon can corrode easily. We advise you to avoid damp locations and to wipe and grease the blade after use.

Handle

Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. From France, our beech is hard, durable and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is characterized by the presence of numerous small, -dark dashes.

Safety ring

Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives as of the N° 06. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport)

I keep it in my car for a emergency (seem to need it far more than just a emergency). Great knife for pocket use it is very lightweight and is much stronger than it seems. Simple design wins for this company and I love my No7. I am looking at the No8 survival knife as a gift for my Boy scout son. Red is his favorite color. Best value for the price.

Nice little knife!

I ordered four of these knives and had them personalized. They were shipped out the same day! I ordered Thursday and received them Saturday. One knife did have a small nick in the blade that I was able to get out pretty easily with a sharpening stone. These are a great gift. I'm pleased with how they turned out.

this is my first opinel

I recently lost one that I had purchased previously from this site. It was sitting atop a mini flashlight I had in my vest pocket instead of being securely wedged in the bottom of that pocket like I usually do. As a result it bounced out at some point. I felt it was not secure enough and ignored my instincts to my own detriment. I have lost knives over the years to equally stupid moves. But this is the first time that I have lost a knife, where my reaction is not to buy an entirely new brand or a different model (i.e. taking it as an opportunity to try something new). Instead I am back on this sight buying the exact same knife that I had. Because I found with this specific knife that it perfectly suits my needs. It had never failed me in a task. Being without it has been as inconvenient as I would imagine missing a thumb would be. Having experienced the main show product, I trust this brand more than I trust most people. And I eagerly await the replacement for the knife that I am sure is impressing whomever happened to find the one I'd lost.

Great knife

I love this knife. The No. 7 was my first Opinel knife, and it is the best pocket knife I've ever carried. It feels good in the hand, it's light in the pocket, and it will hold a razors edge. Opinel knives are great!!!

Lovely Knife for most light tasks

I purchased the no. 7 about two years ago and have used it camping and fishing in a variety of scenarios. It is an excellent small knife for pairing kindling, as well as preparing campside meals and trimming game and fish. The blade is very easy to sharpen, and holds a fine edge. It is a lot harder of a metal than i had first expected, and stands up to moderate abuse with no complaints. The carbon steel does darken naturally over time but has no adverse effect on the utility of the blade. I have also used it at home for preparing various vegetables and trimming meats, and it is very useful there as well. I would recommend the opinel kitchen paring knife for an easier to maintain option for home use.
